egosurfing

Using a search engine to see how many times one's own name is cited. This is a popular, quasi-competitive sport at Silicon Valley parties as well as at gatherings of writers, artists, musicians and others who expect to be find numerous mentions of their name on Web pages, blogs and newsgroups.
