(Russian abbreviation, NZ), a reserve of food, ammunition, fuel, and other supplies that is held in set amounts for the troops in storage facilities and in combat and other vehicles and near artillery guns, mortars, and machine guns, as well as in the possession of personnel. It is used in special cases only with the authorization of senior officers or, sometimes, the immediate superior.
