At that time, the first group of pig-like animals were clustered in the Entelodontidae family, which included the "terrible pig" (Dinohyus hollandi), a bison-sized, pig-like animal that roamed over much of North America, and which, like today's pigs, was omnivorous; though they are thought to be more a scavenger than predator.
