Ernakulam

 

a city in southern India, in Kerala State, in the urban agglomeration of Cochin. Population, 438,000 (1971). Ernakulam is a transportation junction. It has food-processing, soap-making, and cotton-processing enterprises, as well as an electric cable plant.
