MoCA

(Multimedia Over Coax Alliance) An IP-over-coaxial cable technology from the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (www.mocalliance.org). MoCA provides secure, high-speed delivery of Wi-Fi or Ethernet throughout the home wherever the coaxial cable terminates. Because the cable from the cable company is wired into many rooms in the house for TV, the MoCA network infrastructure is already in place.

MoCA Rides Above TV and Internet Signals
MoCA signals operate above 1 GHz; higher than the frequencies used by the cable company's TV channels and Internet service. A filter is used at the service entrance to prevent interference between MoCA signals and the cable plant.

Multi-room Cable TV Boxes
MoCA is also used to create a unified multi-room DVR system whereby a TV program recorded in one room can be played back in another. The Comcast Xfinity unit (bottom) is the main TV set-top box, which connects via MoCA to any number of smaller satellite units (top) for TVs in other rooms.
