Urbanskii, Evgenii Iakovlevich
Born Feb. 27, 1932, in Moscow; died Nov. 5, 1965. Soviet Russian actor. Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1962). Member of the CPSU from 1962.
In 1957, Urbanskii graduated from the school-studio of the Moscow Art Theater and joined the company of the Moscow Stanislavsky Drama Theater, where his roles included Dick Dudgeon in Shaw’s The Devil’s Disciple. His first film role was that of Vasilii Gubanov in The Communist (1958). Other major roles of his were the Invalid in Ballad of a Soldier (1959), the pilot Astak-hov in Clear Sky (1961), and the driver Proniakin in The Big Ore Lode (1964). Urbanskii died during the shooting of the film The Director, in which he played the leading role. The documentary film Evgenii Urbanskii (1968) is dedicated to the actor’s memory.
