An ARM-based octa-core system-on-chip (SoC) from Samsung introduced in 2013. For greater efficiency, it employs four pairs of high/low-power cores. Within each core pair, either the big or little core is used depending on the processing demand at the moment. See Exynos and big.LITTLE.

The researchers tested the Samsung-designed Exynos 5 Octa chip used in South Korean and other international versions of the handset which is not featured in the US or UK editions, which use an alternative chip made by Qualcomm.
