Advanced Encryption Standard

(cryptography, algorithm)
(AES) The NIST's replacement for the Data Encryption Standard (DES). The Rijndael /rayn-dahl/ symmetric block cipher, designed by Joan Daemen and Vincent Rijmen, was chosen by a NIST contest to be AES.

AES is Federal Information Processing Standard FIPS-197.

AES currently supports 128, 192 and 256-bit keys and encryption blocks, but may be extended in multiples of 32 bits.

Since RSA, the K300 has passed FIPS 197 and IP57 certifications.
The new Kingston USB drives are both 256-bit AES hardware encrypted and FIPS certified (DT4000G2DM is FIPS 140-2 Level 3 validated; DTVP30DM is FIPS 197 certified) to ensure maximum corporate and personal data security.
Deep Security was also certified for FIPS 197, FIPS 180-3 and FIPS 186-3 standards as part of this process corresponding to AES, SHA-1/SHA-256 and RSA cryptographic algorithms - respectively.

AES-128 is specified in a government document called the Federal Information Processing Standards publication (FIPS), and FIPS 197 was adopted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in 2001.
It uses full-strength PKI technology and the FIPS 197 approved AES encryption algorithm at its strongest key length of 256 bits.
Successful completion of the AES validation tests is required to claim conformance to the AES as specified in FIPS 197. When applied to implementations under test (IUTs), the validation tests determine the correctness of the algorithm implementation.
These expanded capabilities are compatible with and support the strengthened security requirements of FIPS 197, Advanced Encryption Standard.
The slowdown in the announcement of new DES products apparently was due to the impending adoption of FIPS 197, AES, which was approved by the Secretary of Commerce on Dec.
