Fagan, Mark (Matthew)

(1869–1955) mayor; born in Jersey City, N.J. The Republican mayor of Jersey City (1902–08), he ran against the Democratic machine and for progressive reform. Although he was named honorary mayor under the new commission government in 1913, he turned his back on politics and returned to his family's funeral business.
