Farnham, Russel

(1784–1832) fur trader; born in Massachusetts. A member of the Astoria expedition to Oregon (1810–13) he later traveled across Siberia on foot (1814–16). He managed John Jacob Astor's American Fur Company (1817–19) and then took up farming in Missouri.
