Ferry, Orris Sanford

(1823–75) U.S. representative/senator; born in Bethel, Conn. A Yale graduate, he served in Congress (Rep., Conn.; 1859–61) and became a brigadier-general in the Union army (1861–65). He was a moderate reconstructionist in the Senate (1867–75).
