Film Capacitor

Film Capacitor

a capacitor in which the dielectric consists of a synthetic polystyrene, polyethylene, polyethylene terephthalate, or fluoroplastic film. Film capacitors are made with capacitances of 100 picofarads to 100 microfarads at 40 volts to 20 kilovolts. They are used in DC and AC circuits, mainly in radio equipment.

The inverter consists of an input boost converter (one leg of the module), a film capacitor at the DC bus, and full bridge inverter (leg two and three of the module), the outputs of which are connected to the grid through an LC filter.
Conventional electrolytic capacitor is still massively chosen, because it shows larger capacitance in the same volume and it costs much less when it is compared with novel film capacitor. However, such electrolytic capacitor is fragile to external factors (ripple current, ambient temperature, etc.) [3], and its service life fluctuates seriously along with the variation of these external factors.
A film capacitor [C.sub.SH] is connected in parallel with each of the superjunction MOSFETs to achieve zero-voltage turn-on and to minimize turn-off overvoltage across the switching devices.

The feedthrough capacitors contain proprietary self-healing, metallised plastic film capacitor material, and use a solderless capacitor assembly technique to avoid heat damage.
(kemet.com), a manufacturer of capacitors for everything from industrial lighting to the International Space Station, has opened a $34-million, 52,000 ft2 power film capacitor production facility in the lower level of its Simpsonville, SC, offices to build electrical components for hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs).
To reduce the lead resistance in capacitance structure without suffering the value of C, a new type film capacitor is introduced--interdigital capacitor.
To smooth the output current and voltage, a 0.22 [micro]F film capacitor is added across the output of the half-bridge rectifier; it is also needed for a sufficient charge reservoir to supply the gate.
