Fire Station

a building that serves as quarters for firemen on duty and houses fire engines and fire-fighting equipment. A fire station includes a garage, a communications station, classrooms, and rooms in which those on duty can rest. It also has facilities for servicing vehicles and washing and drying hoses, as well as storerooms for hoses and equipment. Usually there are two to eight fire engines per fire station, with larger stations in major cities. A station must be designed to allow personnel to assemble quickly and safely in the garage when an alarm is sounded. It must also ensure rapid exit for fire engines, which are kept in the garage in a single row, with a separate exit door for each vehicle. In addition to the fire station itself, a fire-station complex includes a filling station and facilities for training personnel.
