The overall upgrade program also includes a new combat-management system, a new optical fire-control system
, a new electronic-warfare suite, plus decoy-rocket launchers and new 40mm guns.
The tactical effects of an automated fire-control system
In December 2003, SaabTech (Jarfalla, Sweden) received a $14-million order for its CEROS 200 multi-sensor fire-control systems
to be installed aboard the new PKX-class fast-patrol boats to be built for the Republic of (South) Korea Navy (ROKN).
For the latter technique, the pilot would aim at an identifiable remote point (up to 20 km from the target), and the fire-control system
would perform the weapon delivery automatically, computing speed, course, and time from the remote aiming point to the actual target.
The sale will include a number of systems already fitted to each ship, including the AN/ALQ-32(V)2 electronic-countermeasures system, the Mk 92 Mode 2 fire-control system
, the AN/SPS-49(V)4 radar, and other items.
Radars are more varied and may include Top Sail, Plate Steer, or MR-700A Fregat-MA/rop Plate-B 3-D air search; Palm Frond surface search; Monolit/Band Stand surface-to-surface targeting and Kite Screech fire-control systems
; and Orekh/Front Dome surface-to-air fire-control system
The analog Kalmar fire-control system
was replaced by a digital system -- the Kryl-D, designed by Przemyslowy Instytut Telekomunikacji (Warsaw, Poland) and the Gdansk Institute of Technology (Gdansk, Poland).
The new equipment includes Aqareb wheeled tank which is equipped with a 90-mm cannon and the latest generation of fire-control systems
with an independent suspension system; an armed 4*4 robot which is capable of carrying two missiles and 600kg of load and conducting reconnaissance and combat missions with the operational range of 2km; and an ultra-light track vehicle which can travel at a maximum speed of 100km in bumpy roads and 130km in graveled roads with operational range of 400km.
1 July 2010 - Swedish defence and aerospace group Saab AB (STO: SAAB B) announced Wednesday a SEK220m deal to upgrade the combat and fire-control systems
of the Finnish Navy's Rauma-class missile boats.
The first phase of the modernization includes a glass cockpit, improved fire-control systems
, and the ability to carry a greater variety of weapons.
Among the equipment to be provided to India are 250 Drawa-T thermal-imaging fire-control systems
worth $72 million and 80 WZT-3 armored recovery vehicles valued at $75 million.
