Fortescue

 

a river in Western Australia. The Fortescue rises on the eastern slopes of the Hamersley Range and empties into the Indian Ocean. It is 670 km long and drains an area of 55,000 sq km. The mean flow rate is approximately 25 cu m per sec. The river flows only after the summer rains in December and January; it dries up in other seasons.
