Fortran I

An early version of Fortran designed by John Backus at IBM for the IBM 704. The design was begun in 1954 and a compiler released in April 1957.

Fortran is not the perfect solution for every problem and vice versa, lf a problem requires low-level system interaction (for example Posix or Win32), a GUI user interface, and does not involve arrays of numerical data, C is a better language choice.

Fortran is well known for its efficiency, while C++ has a reputation (perhaps unjustified) for being much less efficient.
