FoxBASE

An earlier Xbase development system for the Macintosh from Microsoft. It was succeeded by FoxPro. Originally developed by Fox Software for DOS, FoxBASE gained a reputation early on for its speed and compatibility with dBASE. See Visual FoxPro.

While applications which lend themselves to spreadsheet models continue to be programmed as database applications (in dbase or Foxbase Chinese versions), there is little incentive for spreadsheet packages to be developed for China.
These systems have been built from scratch using gramming languages such as Pascal, COBOL, LISP, and FoxBASE. Development of this type has been reserved for large CPA firms and businesses with sufficient funds and expertise to take on such a task.
Also, this database program can be written in other database languages such as Paradox (Borland) and Foxbase (Fox Software, Perrysburg, Ohio).
It developed a reputation for innovation within dBASE standard only recently surpassed by the FoxBASE folks.
The commercial failure of the dBase programs, and later attempts in Clipper, have led to the current focus on Foxbase as a preferred development platform.
Using the Foxbase database manager, the "Solicit" function automatically locates prospective customers by user-selectable parameters and will automatically exclude certain numbers from re-solicitation.
However, a related problem that did show up caused some difficulty with a database program (Foxbase) which could not be started, after installation of Fastback Plus was performing a DMA (Direct Memory Access) test to see whether it could operate at high, medium or low speed during backing up, some material stored in RAM was altered.
