The length of time, expressed as work units, that a specific activity may be delayed without delaying the start of another activity scheduled to follow immediately after. Also known as free slack.

free float

In CPM terminology, the amount of extra time available for an activity if every activity in the project starts as early as possible; the amount of float that can be allocated to an activity without interfering with subsequent work.
