Frequency Standard, Primary

(Russian, etalon chastoty), a frequency measure that reproduces a unit of frequency with the greatest accuracy achievable at the time. It differs from a secondary frequency standard (standart chastoty) in that the error has been more closely studied and its use is more strictly regulated. (SeeQUANTUM FREQUENCY STANDARDS.)
