Frye, William Pierce

(1831–1911) U.S. representative/senator; born in Lewiston, Maine. A Republican lawyer from Maine, he helped simplify House rules as a congressman (1871–81), and avidly supported protectionist tariffs and expansionist foreign policy as a senator (1881–1911).
