bacterial vaginosis[bak‚tir·ē·əl ‚vaj·ə′nō·səs]
Inflammation of the vagina that causes a nonirritating white or gray vaginal discharge, often with a distinctive fishy odor; it results from overgrowth of various normal vaginal bacteria and by depletion of Lactobacillus species, especially strains that produce hydrogen peroxide.
