genlock

(GENerator LOCKing) Synchronizing multiple video signals from cameras, video recorders and external sources. Genlock emits a signal for each frame, and professional video equipment has a dedicated sync port for this function. A frame's timecode is also used for synchronization; however, the clocks in each device may not be 100% precise, and recordings can drift.

Lastly, the VideoVGA-16 by Truevision provides simultaneous RGB, Y/C and NTSC outputs; genlock; internal and external keying; and video titling software.
Tuning each camera for synchronization, as opposed to using a central driver like Genlock, requires an adjustment at each camera.
The new BullDog platform will accommodate multiple video formats (12G, 4K, 3Gb/s, HD/SDI, composite) as well as mic/line audio, intercom, tally, Ethernet, genlock and data.
It supports Universal Analog, DVI single link, and SD/HD/3G SDI signal formats and provides loop-through outputs for the Analog, DVI and SDI input and genlock signals.
That signal must, in all senses, be a TV signal, and so it must use the right codec for the TV infrastructure, must have genlock or another timecode so that it can be properly synchronized with other video sources in the studio, and must perform correctly in all aspects of the TV facility.
The NVIDIA Quadro FX 3000G, with genlock and framelock capabilities, is available with HP Workstations xw6000 and xw8000, and with HP's scalable visualization technology from IBM by special order.
The card features chromakeying to display video over graphics, digital linear keying for graphics over video, on-board encoding and decoding, and genlock to virtually any video source or output.
Any video interface on the remote Nimbra equipment can be used to output a genlock signal that operates off the central studio clock.
The video/audio test signals output from embedded test signal generator with Genlock capability can be used for identifying the signal path through a coax and optical interface.
Additional connections include a DVI-I input for computer use, two DVI-D outputs (PGM and multi-viewer), a microphone input, dual aux in and audio outputs, a headphone jack, as well as connections for genlock, GPI, RS-232C and tally output.
-- FrameLock and GenLock Capabilities: Enables synchronized, multi-display environments as well as synchronization to an external video source.
Myriad individual cards exist: frame grabbers for capturing and digitizing single frames of motion video; genlock, to synchronize an incoming video signal to the computer, some of which also do graphics overlay; video-output for print-to-tape capability; real-time video compression for storage, often coupled with decompression for full-motion playback; and more.
