Hardy, George

Born 1884 in Great Britain. Figure in the international trade union movement.

The son of a poor agricultural laborer, Hardy emigrated to Canada in 1906. He was a member of the American Federation of Labor. In 1911 he joined the International Workers of the World (IWW) and held leading posts in that organization. In 1922 he was expelled from the IWW for criticizing the opportunism of its leaders. Hardy took part in the working-class and trade union movements in Germany, Great Britain, China, and South Africa. From 1928 to 1930 he served on the Executive Bureau of the Red International of Trade Unions (Profintern).
