Ghormley, Robert Lee

(1883–1958) naval officer; born in Portland, Ore. He was responsible for the planning and execution of the invasion of Guadalcanal and Tulgai (1942). As commander of U.S. naval forces in German waters (1945), he administered the demobilization of the German navy.
