part of the Great Basin, on the northern and western coasts of the Gulf of California, in the USA and Mexico. In the relief of the Sonoran Desert, massive mountain ranges with elevations to 1,000–1,200 m alternate with low-lying bolsons. Annual precipitation is less than 100 mm. Winter temperatures are above 0°C. Vegetation, which is of the “woody” desert type, includes various large cacti, the Idria, the creosote bush, and the yucca.
