Gilman, Arthur D. (Delavan)

(1821–82) author, architect, planner; born in Newburyport, Mass. His landmark articles and lectures (1843–44) denouncing classical revival styles launched an architectural career in Boston (1843–66) and New York (1868–82), noted for its embrace of contemporary European influences.
