Gnaphalium

a genus of plants of the family Compositae. It is a heterogeneous genus that includes up to 300 species of annual and perennial herbs and, more rarely, semishrubs; these are distributed worldwide but are especially common in South and Central America (over 150 species) and in Africa (approximately 40 species). In the USSR wild-growing cudweed bears the generic name sushenitsa. The name gnafalium has been retained for foreign species used in floriculture. Best known under this name is gnafalium sherstistyi (G. lanatum), now assigned to the genus Helichrysum.
