Gornyi Zerentui

 

an urban-type settlement in Ner-chinsk-Zavodsk Raion, Chita Oblast, RSFSR. It is located 309 km northeast of the nearest railroad station. Borzia (on the Karymskaia-Zabaikal’sk line), with which it is linked by a road. Polymetallic ores are mined there.

Gornyi Zerentui was one of the centers of hard labor in Nerchinsk. It was known as a place of exile beginning in the second half of the 18th century, and in 1827 a group of Decembrists and members of the Southern Society were exiled there. In 1905, Gornyi Zerentui became a center of mass exile for participants in the Revolution of 1905–07.
