The wood of the African variety of granadilla, or ebony (Dalbergia melanoxylon), grows to a height of 10 m and has reddish black wood. The West Indian granadilla, or American ebony (Brya ebenus), is a small American arbuscle with reddish brown wood. Granadilla wood is very hard and heavy, to the extent that it sinks in water. The wood is used for musical instruments and lathe ware.
