Guajira
(or Goajira) a peninsula in northern South America, in Colombia (primarily) and Venezuela. In the southwest it is low lying; in the northeast there are monadnock massifs rising to an altitude of 853 m. The climate and vegetation is tropical semiarid. Livestock raising on permanent pasture is well developed. Salt is mined in the southwest. The northernmost point of South America is located on Guajira—Punta Gallinas (12° 25’ N lat.).
