Guinzburg, Alfred (Kleinert)

(1899–1961) publisher; born in New York City. He cofounded Viking Press in 1925 and headed it until his death, acquiring such authors as James Joyce, D. H. Lawrence, and August Strindberg. In 1926 he founded the Literary Guild book club.
