Gukovo

 

a city (until 1955, a settlement) in Rostov Oblast, RSFSR. Railroad station on the Likhaia-Debal’tsevo line. Population, 65,000 (1970). Coal is mined in the area, which is part of the Donets coal basin. Gukov has a brick works, a plant producing reinforced concrete mine supports, a rubber plant, a garment factory, a knitted goods factory, and a textile and haberdashery factory. There is also a construction technicum in the city.

A three-month mandate was given to the mission and the monitors were deployed at the Russian checkpoints Donetsk and Gukovo.

"The Russian side is ready for monitoring on the Russian-Ukrainian border, ready to accept Ukrainian border guards in Russia's Gukovo and Donetsk checkpoints on the border between the two states.
"Starting from last night, protracted fighting has continued in the vicinity of the Dolzhanka and Gukovo checkpoints (The Ukrainian army is) trying to push us away from the border and take it under control," the spokesperson told RIA Novosti, adding that fighting is particularly fierce near the town Krasniy Partizan.
