Guleman

 

a populated area in eastern Turkey in Diyar-bakir Vilayet. Population, about 3,000 (1960). Near Guleman there are large deposits of chromite, which supply almost half of the country’s chromite ore. Mining and processing of the ore is directed by the government.

Reserves are mainly clustered in six different regions: the Guleman region (Elazig, in eastern Turkey), which still holds the most important deposits in the country, the Kopdag region (Erzincan-Erzurum, also in eastern Turkey), the Fethiye-Koycegiz-Denizli region in South-West Turkey) the Bursa-Kutahya-Eskisehir region in North-West Turkey, the Mersin-Aladag-Pinarbasi region in the South and the Iskenderun-K.
The main source of metallurgical chromite comes from the Guleman district in eastern Turkey.
