Guthrie test[′gəth·rē ‚test]
A screening test for the detection of phenylketonuria in which the inhibition of growth of a strain of Bacillus subtilis by a phenylalanine analog is reversed byL-phenylalanine, as found in elevated concentration in the plasma of patients with phenylketonuria.
