Mayor ' On Tuesday Transport Secretary Grant Schapps revealed that initial estimates of both the timeline and cost of
HS2 were inaccurate, and that delays and increased costs are to be expected
HS2 could cost up to [pounds sterling]22 billion more than its previous budget and be delayed by as many as seven years, the company building the railway said.
Nigel Farage and the Brexit party have said they will scrap
HS2, promising to spend the 'saving' many times over on Brexit fantasies - and Johnson is never knowingly outbid in that department.
But documents suggest that at least three years ago both the Government and
HS2 knew that wasn't the case.
That's why the business community, desperate for a first-world transport system in Britain, so strongly supports
HS2 and is so angry at this latest navel-gazing review.
The official
HS2 price tag is PS56bn, but Johnson said last month that it was "probably north of PS100bn".
And many opponents of
HS2 have suggested that cancelling it could free up money to improve transport services in the North.
HS2 dropped all attempts to improve transport within the North and switched all focus to London.
Palmers Scaffolding has designed and built a special access scaffolding structure for St James's Gardens in London, where
HS2 is carrying out part of its archaeology programme, while DataScope Systems has planned vehicle movements for enabling works on a section of the Phase One route in London.
What is surprising is that these avaricious southern voices have been joined by misguided northern representatives who seem to think that if we cancel
HS2 we will keep the money in order to improve northern east/west links between Liverpool and Hull.
HS2 Ltd insisted: "In a highly technical project of the scale and complexity of
HS2, it is necessary to employ the right level of expertise."
