harmonic distortion

[här′män·ik di′stȯr·shən]
(electronics)
Nonlinear distortion in which undesired harmonics of a sinusoidal input signal are generated because of circuit nonlinearity.

harmonic distortion

In communications, unwanted frequencies that are generated as multiples of the original frequency due to irregularities in the transmission line. In audio amplifiers, harmonic distortion comes from non-uniform operation (non-linearity) in the amplifier circuits. See harmonic.

Due to this, study needs to be carried out to investigate the harmonic distortion causes by non linear load so that solutions can be designed.
It could be noted that the value of the total harmonic distortion is of higher percentage without using filter [8].
The electrical engineering society is pressuring users responsible for generating harmonic distortion to help in clearing it up, according to Cherney.
Until recently, the switching power supplies within these devices had a low power factor and generated harmonic distortion back into the power distribution system (not unlike the traditional UPSs used to power them).
Electricity bill is also reduced by reducing harmonic distortion in the power supply.
The measured results of harmonics magnitude, individual harmonics distortion and total harmonic distortion of different UPSs are shown in table 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
Harmonic distortion can be determined by following equations:
Also, the notch filter can introduce harmonic distortion of its own.

The M8190A is a modular arbitrary waveform generator that delivers simultaneous high resolution and wide bandwidth with a large spurious-free dynamic range and low harmonic distortion.
The units exhibit <5 percent total harmonic distortion at full load, current limiting, short circuit protection, surge protection, and thermal shut-down with automatic recovery.
99, low total harmonic distortion (THD) of less than 10 percent, and also precise DC bus regulation within a tolerance of 2.
