Hereford and Worcester(hĕr`əfərd, wo͝os`tər), former county, W central England, created under the Local Government Act of 1972 (effective 1974). It was composed of the county borough of Worcester and most of the former counties of Herefordshire and Worcestershire, but in 1998 the two counties were again established as separate entities.

a county in Great Britain, formed in 1973–75 from the two former counties of Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Population, 585,900 (1974). The county is primarily agricultural, although the northeastern area adjacent to the West Midlands conurbation is heavily industrialized, with enterprises of the machine-building, metalworking, and ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy industries.
