Hershey, Lewis (Blaine)

(1893–1977) soldier; born near Angola, Ind. A serving officer from 1917–73, he directed the Selective Service System (1941–70), the agency that drafted millions of American young men into military service during the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s.
