Melonite has been found in polished-section studies of massive ore, in rare particles up to 20 microns across associated with chalcopyrite, sylvanite and hessite, and as inclusions in sylvanite and tellurium.
In Table II, the study of the mineral composition of the ores demonstrated that the finest gold of high purity is present, as well as gold and silver in form of telluride's Calaverite (Au[Te.sub.2]), Silvanite (Au Ag [Te.sub.4]), Petzite (AgAu[Te.sub.2]), Hessite (AgTe), Shtiutzite and Bolinskite (AgBi[Te.sub.2]).
Hessite occurs as an early-stage mineral in microscopic, interstitial grains in calaverite in the Portland mine, where rich pyritic ore was shattered and recemented by tellurides, quartz and fluorite (Loughlin and Koschmann, 1935; Eckel, 1997).
Hessite is a member of the suite of rare microminerals found as inclusions in bismuth nodules from the Bor pit.

Associations include chalcocite, spheroidal siderite and hessite.
Then, from Level 2 of the Rex mine, Boulder County, brilliant tin-white altaite, coloradoite, petzite and hessite are intermixed with duller gray massive galena on gray-white miniature-size rock matrix.
The unusually high quality of the triploidite from this locality makes it of special interest to collectors, and the occurrence of hessite in pods of digenite is of scientific interest, since these minerals normally occur in hydrothermal deposits.
As part of the middle stage mineralization in the northern periphery of the ore deposit, canfieldite, hocartite, stannite, hessite, argentite, pyrargyrite, stephanite, polybasite and native silver were deposited, characteristically accompanied by minor cassiterite, arsenopyrite and chlorite.
Metallic phases are: pyrite, acanthite, hessite, "electrum," altaite, silver, galena, pyrargyrite, sphalerite and owyheeite.
Mcalpineite occurs with keystoneite, choloalite and a number of unknowns on quartz, hessite and electrum.
While we stared at the latest beauty from Tsumeb, or an incredible kunzite from Brazil, or a choice hessite from an often-renamed central European locality, Martin would step back, beaming with pleasure at our amazement.
