Himeji
(hēmā`jē), city (1990 pop. 454,360), Hyogo prefecture, SW Honshu, Japan. A railroad and market center, it manufactures cotton textiles and supplies iron and steel for the Osaka-Kobe industrial area. Himeji
a city and port in Japan, on the island of Honshu; situated on the Seto Sea at the mouth of the Ichi River, in Hyogo Prefecture. Population, 426,600 (1973). Himeji, an industrial center in the Osaka-Kobe industrial region, has enterprises of the machinebuilding, textile, chemical, woodworking, food-processing, and oil-refining industries. A large metallurgical combine is located nearby.
