Hitchcock, H. (Hugh) Wiley

(1923–  ) musicologist; born in Detroit, Mich. After studies at Dartmouth College and the University of Michigan, he joined the Brooklyn College faculty in 1971 and became director of the important Institute for Studies in American Music. He was coeditor of the New Grove Dictionary of American Music (1986).
