Holness, Andrew,

1972–, Jamaican politician, prime minister of Jamaica (2011–12, 2016–). A member of the Jamaica Labor party (JLP), Holness served (1996–2000) as special assistant to Prime Minister Edward SeagaSeaga, Edward Philip George
, 1930–2019, prime minister of Jamaica (1980–89). Born in Boston, Mass., to Jamaican parents of Lebanese, European, and African descent, he was a record producer before entering politics.

 stepped down as prime minister and JLP leader, and Holness succeeded him in both posts, but the JLP lost power in a snap election at the end of the year. In 2016, however, the JLP returned to power, and Holness again became prime minister, and he and the JLP also won the elections in 2020.
