On the central eastern border of SC, southeast of Florence; organized Dec 19, 1801 from All Saints Parish. Name Origin: For Gen. Peter Horry (1743-1815), officer in the Revolutionary War and prominent citizen. Referred to by inhabitants as "The Independent Republic of Horry."
