Mr Johnstone closed his talk with a series of photographs taken using the method described, including images of M33, M51 and the Horsehead Nebula. He added that one of the main difficulties of film photography, as compared to modern CCD imaging, was the limited achievable dynamic range: it was very difficult, for example, to avoid burning out the nuclei of globular clusters if the outer cluster members were to be visible at all.
