(XImage Extension) Extensions to the X Window system that enhance its graphics capability. It allows the desktop terminal or PC (the server) to retrieve various types of compressed images from the client and be able to manipulate them.

Remember, in X, the client and server are the opposite of what they are in client/server. See X Window.
