The Humboldt jig is primarily a coal cleaning machine, but it is also used for metal-ore upgrading on water-soluble materials such as potash or salt, where it is advantageous to maintain the coal dry for direct feed to boilers, and in locations where there is a shortage of water, or where freezing weather prevails.
