Hunt, William Henry

(1823–84) jurist, secretary of the navy; born in Charleston, S.C. He practiced law in New Orleans (1844–78). As secretary of the navy (1881–82) he appointed the first naval advisory board. He was ambassador to Russia (1882–84).
