Ibarra
a city in the Andes in northern Ecuador; administrative center of Imbabura province. Located on the Pan American highway at an elevation of 2,200 m. Population, 25,800 (1962). Ibarra is the trade center of an agricultural region (grains, potatoes, and livestock). Its cottage industries include wood carving, relief work in silver, and the manufacture of woolen fabrics and panama hats.
