a city in Northeast China, in Heilungkiang Province. It is a landing at the influx of the Mutan River into the Sungari, a tributary of the Amur. It is the center of an agricultural region and is important for the processing of agricultural products and woodworking. Deposits of coal, iron ore, and oil shale can be found in the surrounding region.
