Ilovaisk

 

a city (since 1938) in Donetsk Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. It is a railroad junction (Ilovaiskoe). Population, 20,200 (1970). Enterprises servicing railroad transportation are located there, and cinder blocks are produced.

The report is the first official confirmation of the scale of a defeat in the city of Ilovaisk that critics of the country's military command have described as the result of disastrous leadership.
The smashed tanks, APCs and trucks were part of a massive column fleeing after being encircled in the town of Ilovaisk, which the Ukrainian government was compelled to concede after weeks of battles.
